Hubilo Expedition- Into the wild!

We are a team of 25 people at Hubilo, who like spending time together and make the most out of our work. Since the beginning, we have been making our weekends happening by organizing gaming events or Game of thrones evenings and that tradition has continued till now. But this time, we wanted to do something beyond the confines of the office walls and add more to it, so we decided to go on a 2-day camping trip

It is too easy to get occupied in our own work and stumble upon same people on Quip (our productivity suit) or even at the nearby food joints. Thus, our trip wasn’t fabricated to be one of those team-building events. But rather a place to get out of the four walls and to bring liveliness to ourselves and discover the untold stories.

This camping and going into the wild brought us the opportunity to make meaningful and deeper relationships with the people we almost spend 9 long hours a day with. And hence the best choice — hang out with stars, discover new places and live in the tent around a campfire.

To the places without internet.

Why do you think you should organize such company trip as well? Wait, we have a list for you at the end.

It was The Mahal Eco Camp Site at Purna Wildlife Sanctuary in Dang region of Gujarat. The Mahal Eco Campsite is blessed with rivers and lot of options for trekking and walking. It is located on the banks of the Purna River, in the middle of the Purna Wildlife Sanctuary and is a part of the Dang Forest Division North. It is surrounded by a vast and rich forest along the river. Can you see that?

So, we started at 7 am in the morning. Some of us are not really used to getting up so early, but the excitement and curiosity kept us all up. And soon we started playing Dumb Charades. Though it was a game of silence, lots of expressions were exchanged and communication between the team improved. The time flew by and at 3 pm we landed at the campsite.

It was wonderful to see how our accommodation was organized. It was all Earth, sky and birds. To reconnect with the basics of life. Tents provided the space to relax and take off our shoes. Living in a tent was liberating and it gave us time to breathe the sense of moment and open our heart. As Hubilo believes in not just in creating events but rather giving an experience worth cherishing.

Having found that it was no network zone was a surprise to everyone. But it turned out to be one of the best part of the overall trip. Yes! Having none of us connected to the electronics and outer world, people actually talked and networked like they had never imagined. Also, we learned many new things about each other to appreciate and acknowledge.

After getting refreshed and having lunch, we played cricket. The team was fairly made and you can see our CEO in the middle instructing his team members. It turned out to be a fair play with sportsmanship booming in the air. Cricket is the only thing which teaches you that when people throw stones at you, convert them into milestones!

By this time everyone was tired and was wondering what could be the next activity. And that’s how we planned a Dance Face-off! You heard it right. One by one, everyone started grooving and showing their moves off. And the guy with the coolest swag won! The reason for doing this was to impart confidence in the Hubilites and eventually raise up their morale. And we surely succeeded!

After having dinner, it was time for the campfire fun! An interesting quiz was organized by our CEO & HR focused more on facts about our company. Turned out that there are so many interesting things we have never taken notice of. Sometimes all we need is a campfire, good friends and a song to sing along.

Having enjoyed the silence and serenity at the night, everyone woke up to find out that it was the time to go for trekking. Time to get us into the wild.

With bamboo and breeze to accompany us, we walked and hopped. We sometimes find us in the middle of nowhere and sometimes in the middle of nowhere we find ourselves. The point of trekking isn’t about reaching the destination, it is rather the experience and pleasantries that you enjoy en-route, isn’t it?

And finally, the time came to which every one of us was looking forward to. The river!

It was indeed something we are going to remember for a very long time. And the time of fun and pun came to an end. While coming back everyone was asked to share their reviews about how they feel about the overall trip. Here is the summary,

A very refreshing experience. All round the year we are busy with our work and we forget to connect with people with whom we don’t interact much. So, it gave us a chance to connect better and hence it was exciting. You feel ease with other people of the office and that helps professionally to express yourself better.
Team bonding which leads to the better coordination. It helps in personal networking as well. Things like camp fire and cricket have to lead to a better inter-bonding. It gave us a sense of realization that however, we work with different teams but we all are under the same umbrella- Hubilo!

To that our CEO said, “And that’s what the camping was all about, isn’t it?” It was the first time that our tech team and sales team were sitting together for food and we can’t wait to tell you why you should organize such office trip as well. Here is your checklist!

1. Let people know each other beyond their work only. It gives an opportunity to vibe with people having similar interest. People do not just look for the work your company does but also its values and meaning.

2. To let them create stories with each other. Stories to share and tales to tell! Even you and I are stories in ourselves. Let your story be discovered.

3. Whether planned or not all companies have culture. So why not create a culture we love? If you get the culture right, everything else will take care of itself.

4. It shows that each employee in your company regardless of their job profile, you value them professionally and personally.

5. You see what’s happening here? Even google suggests giving your employees some chill time! Happy Planning!
